Steve Byrum

President and Chief of Subject Matter/Content Development

Steve is the President and Chief of Subject Matter/Content Development for Judgment Index.

Steve is a native of Athens, Tennessee where he was active in athletics and academics.  He did his undergraduate studies at the University of Richmond and at Maryville College and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Tennessee Wesleyan College in 1969. In 1993, Steve was honored as the Tennessee Wesleyan Distinguished Alumnus of the Year. Steve earned his Master of Arts and Doctorate of Philosophy degrees from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. His studies at the University of Tennessee brought him into a close working relationship the late Robert S. Hartman, the creator of the Judgment Index™ (Hartman Profile). Steve’s master’s thesis and doctoral dissertation were on Hartman’s work – the study of values.  Steve also completed post-graduate work at Princeton University (Princeton, New Jersey), Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee), and Spelman College (Atlanta, Georgia). He holds a Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Seminary (he is an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church).

Steve taught at the University and College level for 25 years, three years at UT Knoxville and twenty-two years at Chattanooga State where he was Dean of Arts and Humanities. Steve held Adjunct Professorships at the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, Tennessee Wesleyan, Carson-Newman College, and the University of Alabama.

He is the author of nearly 40 books and over 100 periodical articles.

Steve is married and is the proud father of two children and three grandchildren. He and his family have lived in the Chattanooga area since 1975.
